Bear of the Month

Do you have a bear at home that you’d like to enter into our Bear of the Month competition?

As well as having their photo on the website, competition-winning bears will receive a signed certificate from Darwin and Rabbit. Most bears will be over the moon about this, but not all. For example, Pessabears don’t like compliments, so they probably don’t like certificates either!

  • June 2026 – Herne

We do love a knitted bear and Herne is the most colourful knitted bear we’ve seen so far. We especially love that he has a bow tie that matches his ears! Herne comes from Herne Bay in Kent and loves to sunbathe on the beach when he gets a chance. Congratulations Herne!

  • Tim - June’s Bear of the Month

    May 2026 – Tim

Well done Tim. At 62 years young, he has been voted May’s Bear of the Month for his expressive face. He is a deep thinker as you can see from the picture. We have been told that despite losing his growl, a lot of his fur and half of one eye he still feels beautiful, especially when he is wearing his favourite dress. What a great attitude. Keep it up Tim!

  • April 2026 – Winchester

Winchester is named after a great cathedral city! His special skill is smiling. In fact, you can tell him absolutely anything and he’ll always see the bright side. Just like an Optabear! Well done Winchester for winning April’s Bear of the Month with your wonderful smile.

  • March 2026 – Olaf

Hooray for Olaf – a colourful knitted bear with a personality a mile high! As you can see, he is a very lively bear who loves to dance and sing. His beautiful violet colour is a reminder of the pretty flowers that come into bloom this time of year, so it is very appropriate he is our Bear of the Month for March.

  • February 2026 – ‘Ercule

Ooh la la! February’s Bear of the Month caught our eye, for obvious reasons. His name should really be Valentine! but he’s actually called ‘Ercule – after the famous detective Hercule Poirot. He has actually never been to France but he is very keen to learn the language and loves to watch his namesake solving murders on TV.

  • January 2026 – Chubby Checker

January’s Bear of the Month goes, very appropriately to Chubby Checker who managed to eat a whole chocolate snowman on his own over Christmas. He’s looking very pleased with himself as you can see. We love his chirpy personality and colourful bowtie and are very impressed with his chocolate-eating skills. A very good start to the year – well done Chubby!

  • December 2025 – Friend Bear

December’s Bear of the Month is actually two bears! This is Friend Bear – and Friend! As you can see they have matching Christmas outfits on ready for the festive season. A great example of twin bears in twin outfits. These two spend so much time together they are even starting to look more alike! Thanks to Laura for sending them in!
